National Famine Way 1490 – Remembrance Corridor

With local communities we aim to gather, sow, grow and plant 1490 oak trees along the 100 mile length of the Royal Canal from Strokestown House to Dublin, in remembrance of our ancestors, the 1490 who walked the National Famine Way in 1847

We will grow the 1490 Oak trees in 1490 days starting from Samhain 2026, using acorns collected from some of our last remaining ancient oak trees including St John’s Wood, Lecarrow, Co Roscommon.

We will launch this Remembrance Corridor and sow the first acorns during the Footsteps and Folklore event on 24th, 25th and 26th October.
